The US military in Iraq says it carried out attacks overnight on the flashpoint towns of Falluja and Ramadi, killing up to 60 insurgents.
In a statement, the military said “precision strikes” targeted bases of alleged terror mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Falluja and a nearby town.
But hospital sources were quoted saying about 30 bodies had been received – many of them women and children.
